WWE Raw 9/9/19 Results

Six nights before WWE Clash of Champions, WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin will preside over a contract signing for the Universal Title Match between Raw Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman. Can The Texas Rattlesnake control the chaos as the red brand returns to Madison Square Garden for the first time in a decade? Also on Raw, King of the Ring tournament semifinal action begins as Ricochet, Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin collide in a Triple Threat Match, Rey Mysterio returns to in-ring competition and much more! (via WWE.com)

Our five-point preview:

1. Raw’s live from Madison Square Garden tonight with a pretty great, already announced card, so we might be in for a treat.

2. If it doesn’t end via run-in in 30 seconds (which it might), the match of the night should be Rey Mysterio vs. Gran Metalik. That’s important for lucha libre and WWE culture, and hopefully a commercial for WWE getting smart and letting Rey chill on 205 for a while.

3. Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, who will definitely get along, are set to face Sasha Banks and Evil Bayley.

4. Stone Cold will be there doing Stone Cold shit, and also moderating a contract signing between Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman. What a strange WWE we’re in when Austin’s being brought in to calm things down and keep things orderly.

5. Cedric Alexander vs. AJ Styles! Please don’t have The O.C. interfere immediately! This show could be so good!

WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR AUG. 12

Bullshit fakers, enchanted kingdoms, the fashion victims chew their charcoal teeth. I never let on, that I was on a sinking ship. I never let on that I was down. You blame yourself, for what you can’t ignore. You blame yourself for wanting more. She’s the one for me, she’s all I really need. She’s the one for me, she’s my one and only, and with her love and support, I’m here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of last night’s Universal Championship match.

Newly crowned champion Seth Rollins makes his entrance, walking a little gingerly but hale and hearty otherwise.

He gets on the mic and says he’s gotta be honest ‘cause he doesn’t know any other way, and last night he didn’t know that he had what it takes to beat Brock Lesnar. The last few weeks have been the toughest stretch of his entire career, and he came to the ring at less than 100% and stared Lesnar right in the eyes. In this ring, Brock is everything he’s touted to be and more.

He pauses a beat and a “Beast Slayer!” chant goes up. He continues, saying that when he ran out of gas, something happened-- the crowd came alive, and in that moment they took him to a place he’s never been in his entire career. To a place that he couldn’t go on his own, to a place that only they can go together! In that moment, he knew he had what it took to slay the Beast!

And he remembered that he’s Seth freakin’ Rollins, and that’s why he’s standing here as Universal Champion.

Enter AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows, the OC.

They get in the ring and AJ gets on the mic, telling Seth that believe it or not, the OC would like to be the first to congratulate him. They lead a round of applause and Styles continues, saying that here’s where it gets tricky-- he doesn’t have to worry about Brock Lesnar anymore, but he does have to worry about the man standing in front of him, and he wants a match tonight.

Rollins says he’s always had a ton of respect for AJ... but not anymore. It doesn’t matter how beat up he is, but he’ll teach Styles a lesson in respect-- challenge accepted! AJ offers a hand before realizing Gallows and Anderson must be making Seth nervous and asking them to leave the ring. He extends his hand again, and Rollins shakes it.

AJ tells his pals that Seth is scared and he better be, to which Rollins gives the universal “come and get some then” hand gesture.

Commentary hypes up Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Rey Mysterio in a 2/3 falls match, a women’s tag title defense, and Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for later tonight.

Backstage, the Street Profits are doing their usual hype reel/Greek chorus gimmick when Sami Zayn rolls up with some friendly advice.

He says he gets it, they’re new, it’s exciting, and they should enjoy it while it lasts, because the longer you’re here, the more it sucks your soul out. He says Becky Lynch used to be real straight fire but now she feels so manufactured, to which Angelo Dawkins asks if that even goes for, say... Samoa Joe. The camera pans to show Joe standing behind Sami while Zayn starts making fun of him and running him down.

Samoa gets his attention and Sami begs off, but Joe ain’t having it. He says since he’s such a big softy he’ll give Zayn a chance to get it off his chest in that ring right now, and maybe he’ll show that he’s something more than Kevin Owens’ waterboy. Joe punctuates with a shove and storms off as we go to break.

Back from commercial we’re told that King of the Ring is coming back next week!

A video recap of Roman Reigns and the career-threatening week follows.

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe

Zayn right in on the attack, scraping Joe’s eyes across the top rope. Right hands, off the ropes but Samoa freight trains him and follows it up with repeated headbutts! Off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, Coquina Clutch is locked on and Joe falls back... IT’S OVER!

Samoa Joe wins by submission with the Coquina Clutch.

Post-match, he gets on the mic and says that while he might forgive Roman Reigns, that forgiveness is extended to none of us who have helped propagate the lie that he was capable of such heinous atrocities, and for that, he’ll never forgive any of us.

Backstage we see the Miz strolling along, he’ll be in action after the break.

Miz makes his entrance in his wrestling gear, but Dolph Ziggler follows in his street clothes with a bit of a limp and gets in the ring.

Ziggler gets on the mic but the “Goldberg!” chants drown him out at first. He says he hopes Miz is happy and calls him a coward, saying everyone knows he didn’t have a chance against SummerSlam so he subbed Goldberg in as part of his genius master plan, but he forgot, Dolph got speared so many times yesterday that he cannot medically compete tonight so his plan goes out the window, and Miz screwed Miz.

No match. He goes to leave and as soon as Miz turns around Ziggler miraculously heals and attacks the A-Lister from behind! Raining punches down in the corner, referee John Cone backs him off and we’re gonna have the match... after the break.

Dolph Ziggler vs. the Miz

Whip reversed, Miz with a big knee lift to start his comeback. Left hands into the corner, referee John Cone backs him off, corner knees into the Awesome Clothesline, up top and posing! Diving double axehandle, chest kicks follow, thinking about the figure four but Ziggler kicks him away. Slip out of the full nelson, Dolph sidesteps a charge... ZIG ZAG ISN’T ENOUGH!

Ziggler tuning up the band, lying in wait, superkick blocked, single knee falling kneebreaker! Figure four leglock applied in the center of the ring, Dolph reaching and struggling, refusing to give up, clawing and reaching... AND HE GETS PULLED AWAY WITH HIS FINGERS NEARLY ON THE ROPES! IT’S OVER!

The Miz wins by submission with the figure four leglock.

Just like last night with Goldberg, Dolph taunts Miz about being a coward and tells Miz that Maryse is a better wrestler. He calls it a flesh wound, Miz comes back... SKULL-CRUSHING FINALE!

Backstage, Becky Lynch is interviewed.

She takes the mic and says she didn’t come here to celebrate and respect to Natalya but a long time ago she said she’s coming for everybody that did her wrong and she will not rest until everybody’s been dealt with. It’s cat and mouse and your smart play is to get her before she can get you.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Elias is in the ring to sing us a song.

He talks about how he thinks he’s figured it out, this pattern of interruption, so why not get that out of the way right now? He asks for whoever’s going to interrupt to do so now and counts them down, 3... 2... 1... nope. So okay, he launches into a number--

Enter Ricochet.

He says he hates to break it to him but people don’t come out and interrupt because it’s the cool thing to do, honestly it’s becuase Elias sucks. The Drifter says that’s clever but a guy that comes out here dressed up like a comic book character isn’t gonna tell him what’s cool, and he calls for a referee right now so he can embarrass Ricochet.

Elias vs. Ricochet

Ricochet rolls under, headscissors takeover into a dropkick for one. Shove off, elbow up, Elias in with body blows and stomps and referee Darrick Moore backs him off. Chop in the ropes, whip across, back body drop and Ricky takes it hard but is able to kick out! Reverse chinlock applied, Ricochet out, dropkick leaves both men down and out, whip reversed, enzuigiri connects and the Drifter hits the floor.

Ricky off the ropes... TOPE CON GIRO BUT NOBODY’S HOME! Elias gets his guitar out, Moore warns him off, Ricochet recovers and clocks him with a crescent kick! Sunset flip...

Ricochet wins by pinfall with a sunset flip.

Rey Mysterio is shown walking backstage to send us to break.

Back from commercial we get some hype for SummerSlam coming to Boston next year.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Rey Mysterio (2/3 Falls Match)

Almas in with a big boot, stomping away, powerbomb lift countered into a Frankenstiner that puts Cien on the second! Vega blocks the 619, and holds Andrade in place while he makes a pin...

Andrade “Cien” Almas wins the first fall by pinfall.

Off the ropes, duck a lariat, slide low, tilt-a-whirl headscissors and Almas hits the floor. Mysterio up top, Cien climbs to meet him, trading chops, jockeying for position... REY WITH A STEP-UP FRANKENSTEINER TO THE FLOOR! Back inside, slingshot splash for one, quebrada blocked and Andrade gets the back elbow off the ropes but Mysterio kicks out!

Stomping away, putting boots to Rey in the corner, but he sidesteps the corner knees! Back body drop to the apron, Mysterio with forearms, slingshot... FLIP PILEDRIVER SPIKES ALMAS BUT IT’S NOT ENOUGH! Cien set up on the second but he ducks the 619, small package... NOPE! Overrotated schoolboy pin... STILL NO! Frog splash, knees are up, Andrade thinks fast...

Andrade “Cien” Almas wins the second and final fall by pinfall with the hammerlock DDT.

And now it is time for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to Skype into Raw.

He puts Seth Rollins’ performance last night over and says that it told him who Seth freakin’ Rollins is and how committed he is to being the best wrestler in the world. He says Seth is too humble to say it but he thinks he found a piece of himself on Sunday and then we finish up with an ad for his new show, Straight Up Steve Austin.

And ad for King of the Ring sends us to break.

Back from commercial, Rey Mysterio is walking backstage and he runs into an interview.

He has a hard time collecting himself and admits he doesn’t know where his career is going but he has a family to support.

Elsewhere, Montez Ford tells Rey to keep his head up. Angelo Dawkins is sleeping his hangover off and Ford wakes him up to resume their role as hype men.

Drew McIntyre is interviewed backstage and says his rivalry with Cedric Alexander ends tonight and everything he’s done is part of the fairytale his concocted in his head and he thinks it ends with a big victory in Toronto, but it’s not. What’s gonna happen is McIntyre is gonna cave his skull in and end the fairytale.

Drew makes his entrance and we go to break before the match.

Cedric Alexander vs. Drew McIntyre

Alexander charging in, single leg dropkick but McIntyre tosses him into the corner. Cedric lands another kick, but again when he closes Drew fights him off. Clothesline to the floor... TOPE CON GIRO! Back inside, missile dropkick... NOPE! Back body drop to the apron countered, Alexander lands on his feet but Drew gets under him... CRUCIFIX POWERBOMB INTO THE TOP TURNBUCKLES!

Only a nearfall, trading strikes, McIntyre shoves him off, head and arm triangle sets up a Cobra Clutch! To the corner, a boot, huge belly-to-belly suplex... STILL NO! Kneeling armbar with a grip on his jaw, Alexander fights to his feet and gets a step-up enzuigiri to leave both men down and out! Back elbow, knee, off the ropes... A GRAVITY DEFYING CRAVATE DDT IS ONLY GOOD FOR TWO!

Setting Drew up in the corner, climbing to meet him, jockeying for position... MCINTYRE WITH AN AVALANCHE BLACK HOLE SLAM! To the floor, pasting Alexander with big chops, scooping him up but he puts Drew into the post... LUMBAR CHECK ON THE FLOOR! Referee Chad Patton counting, Cedric dives... COUNTERED INTO A BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPLEX ON THE RAMP! McIntyre scoops him up and takes him back inside.

Lying in wait, inside cradle, only two, Drew up top, Cedric joins him... SPANISH FLY FOR TWO! McIntyre with a pair of back elbows, inverted Alabama Slam reversed into a victory roll for two! Off the ropes... DREW GOT HIM WITH THE CLAYMORE! IT’S OVER!

Drew McIntyre wins by pinfall with the Claymore.

Backstage the OC are talking strategy.

Gallows and Anderson needle Styles about not being able to beat Brock Lesnar but he points out he only had one chance and he’s gonna beat Rollins tonight.

Paul Heyman is shown walking backstage and into Brock Lesnar’s dressing room to send us to break.

Back from commercial we’re informed Paul Heyman will be interviewed when he leaves Brock’s dressing room.

No Way Jose vs. Robert Roode

Circling, collar and elbow, Roode with punches and chops and kicks in the corner but referee Dan Engler warns him off. Whip across, Jose gets an elbow, right hands, whip reversed, front kick to scout the back body drop, off the ropes he gets caught by the spinebuster! Lying in wait, kick to the gut...

Robert Roode wins by pinfall with the Glorious DDT.

Paul Heyman is interviewed backstage.

He mocks the idea that history was made at SummerSlam and says earlier today WWE declared that Brock Lesnar gets no rematches. How is he supposed to explain this? He sputters through a few false starts and heads back in Brock’s dressing room.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial and we have a match!

Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado) vs. the Revival (Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson)

Wilder and Dorado to start, Lince with a tijeras but Dash blocks a dropkick and tags Dawson in. Whip into a back elbow, leg drop, elbow drop, mocking the Lucha! chants on his way to a back suplex and a two count. Into the corner, tag to Wilder, Dorado with a springboard that takes ‘em both out...

R-Truth and Carmella come running down the ramp, followed by the crush of would-be 24/7 Champions.

The bell rings, presumably signaling the match ending in a no-contest.

Chaos ensues...

The Revival win the 24/7 Championship by pinfall with a Hart Attack.

Kalisto in and clearing house, Salida Del Sol... ALMOST! Carmella drags R-Truth into place...

R-Truth wins the 24/7 Championship by pinfall with a lateral press.

Truth and Carmella run away, followed by the collected superstars with Drake Maverick holding up the rear.

Truth and Carmella sneak out through the side of the stage and we follow them to the back.

R-Truth celebrates being champion more times than Ric Flair and John Cena combined. (He is not.)

Elias comes from behind...

Elias wins the 24/7 Championship by pinfall with El Kabong.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get another recap of Roman Reigns’ very bad couple weeks, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)

My cable goes out briefly and when it comes back up, Natalya is making her entrance in street clothes, her arm in a sling.

She gets on the mic and says last night she tapped out. Becky Lynch outwrestled her and was the better woman. She has a dislocated elbow and she’s getting an MRI tomorrow, and she guesses this is the part where she’s supposed to take everything back, but she meant every word she said. She doesn’t know when and where but they’re going to do it again.

In the meantime she wants to share something special-- this morning when she woke up, she remembered a dream where her dad spoke to her and congratulated her, telling her how proud he was. It’s been a year today since Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart passed away...

SASHA BANKS IS HERE!

She gets in the ring and hugs Nattie, sharing a moment with her... BEFORE SLAPPING HER WHOLE DAMN HEAD OFF! Banks ditches the purple wig she was wearing, revealing blue hair underneath and she goes to town beating on Neidhart before throwing her arm into the turnbuckles! Corner knees, dumping Nattie to the floor, following out after her, jawing at her and shoving her to the floor!

Ignoring some asshole catcalling her, Sasha smashes Neidhart’s arm into the steel steps a few times! She puts Natalya in the ring and brings a chair in, stomping away, but before she can go grab the chair...

BECKY LYNCH MAKES THE SAVE! SHE AND SASHA BRAWL AWAY! In the ring, out of it, Banks with a big right, ramming Lynch into the barricade! Sasha grabs the chair and waffles Becky across the back with it! Again and again with the chairshots! Referees come down to try and back her off, and the Boss gives up on the chair but goes over to ask Becky where her balls are and keeps striking her!

Tossing her into the steel steps one more time, Banks finally leaves and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a recap of what we just saw because ahhh holy shit it was awesome hell yeah let’s watch it again!

Viking Raiders get a picture in picture promo about how they’ve dominated the battlefield and ravaged all those before them.

Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) vs. ??? & ???

Raiders make short work of our indie lads as usual...

Viking Raiders win by pinfall with the Viking Experience.

We go backstage where the women’s tag team champions are interviewed.

Alexa Bliss says they’re fighting champions, and Nikki Cross says this is more than she could have imagined and she’s got Bliss to thank for that. Alexa says when it’s them against the world, they get results, and we go to break waiting for the match.

Paige gets a promo explaining that she’s not at Raw to manage Kabuki Warriors because she’s having another neck surgery.

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (c) vs. Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship)

Sane and Bliss to start, Kairi with a fakeout right and she boops Alexa after she flinches. Waistlock into a whip, crossbody, blind tag, rolling solebutt from Asuka, off the ropes, one-handed bulldog into a dropkick, clear the apron, hip attack off the apron! Back inside, cover gets two and we go to break.
